    My son really wants to go hiking in Norway this summer so I'm looking at 7 day hikes. The SignaTUR Tafjordfjella looks good and not too challenging (also since we can stay in lodges so won't have such a heavy backpack) but does anyone have a recommendation for a maps app that can work with the GPX? Is OSM good for Norway? Obviously we will also have a paper map and I know it's signposted as well, but I always feel better with a GPX backup.

    @Chrissy I was in the area in 2022 and when I recall correctly we used the app of UT primarily.

    Link Preview Image
    UT - hele Norges turplanlegger - Apps on Google Play

    Find marked routes, hiking, cycling and skiing throughout Norway.

    favicon

    (play.google.com)

    Maybe you find some further route inspiration on my website about the hike we did in 2022.

    Have fun, it is stunning there.

        @Chrissy By the way, in case you need special services, I can wholeheartedly recommend https://uteguiden.com/en. We went kayaking with them, but we were also able to arrange transport with them to/from Ålesund and even a pickup higher up in the valley, so we did not have to walk 3 hours over roads. Public transport is not great and in this way we were very efficient with our time. We were a party of 7, so we have a bit more budget perhaps, but in any case, check them out.

        When we arrived in Ålesund some of the luggage did not arrive and they went with us to the store to get the replacement stuff, called colleagues for other gear etc. They were absolutely amazing. 6 stars.

              @Chrissy small "warning" about the route of our day 3. This was super long and not often hiked, so we had to search for the route a lot of times (especially at the beginning in the woods). Took us 11 hours hiking!

              And a general thing, the published hiking times are for stunning Norwegians Gods I guess. You can easily count 25-50% additional time for us mortals.

                @bergmeister Are the paths generally well waymarked? I usually just look at the distance + elevation and calculate my own hiking time as I am familiar with my and my son's pace, but thanks for the warning.

                  @Chrissy yes, they are. Apart from that one day (trail grown over), we did not have any issue navigating. You need to get used to the red dot a bit, which sometimes blends in with the surroundings, but you will get the hang of it. The red T is easier to spot. That long day was in no means representative for the rest of the tour.

                      @Chrissy
                      I don't use it at all, so I can't vouch for the quality, but a lot of adventurers that I know use Strave for routes that others have saved. AllTrails seems to be more hiking-specific.
