*Events long after the extinction of mankind, with no one intelligent to bear any witness to them
The post-futurity, just as real as Earth before the rise-of-mammals
*How could you study it, what does it mean
@bruces a place (such as the earth) can have a post-history. You can even gaze upon it, personally. All you have to do is go on a sufficiently high-speed holiday, and when you come back, the place will be covered in it.

@bruces reminds me of an old novel. Simak. Probably.

@bruces it depends on in which ontology of social change and philosophy of History you lay down (philosophy of History includes how we think about future).
If liberal and modernist, then it's supposed that the End of History (and then a post-history) happened 30 years ago (fukuyama) or is happening or whatever.
According to new currents on History (discipline) there is not such thing as a real division between pre-history and history, the periodisation is european-near east centric and absurd

@bruces About post-futurity, I take the concept from other side, but there is this Manifesto by Franco Berardi https://www.generation-online.org/p/fp_bifo5.htm

@bruces
The time travelers we sent forward to explore it never came back.

@bruces human sentience is of dubious evolutionary value, after we make ourselves extinct will another non-human sentience evolve, unlikely as its so unsuccessful...

@bruces or that the super-intelligent species that replace us would be as interested in our history as we are in amoeba history.

@bruces "I am telling you the notion they polluted their environment that fast and died out is not plausible, only the asteroid theory really explains the extinction event"

@bruces What's the difference, to us, whether people will be there or not? It's all made-up stories.
Most of the universe has no one to bear witness. Even what we witness, we don't really see or understand.
Maybe gravity and light are the universe observing itself, moment to moment. What's so special about consciousness? The mind is a fractal. There are other kinds of fractals. Maybe they're all "conscious".
