@Cam Well, I don't go on and on about a celebrity's death but some have more of an effect than others. The music, books, movies etc. that they have given the world become part of people's lives and memories and can be associated with events in life. So when they pass it is sad. Sure others will be there but not associated with the same things.
@baxaphobia that's true. And the works they left us with will always be there. But holy hell I've had enough of hearing about James Vanderbeek and Brad what's his face from 3 Doors Down to last a lifetime.

@Cam Well, I'm not of the generation of Dawson's Creek but it was the show of a whole group of tween/teens. And 3 doors down was good but not a group that was all that huge. Now you might hear me cry when either Springsteen or Willie passes away!

During Covid, the counselor that I had was no longer seeing people in person because her husband was immuno compromised and so we spoke over the phone for the rest of our sessions until she retired. But that was different because I had met her and been in her office several times. I had another counselor after her, and I only spoke to her over the phone. She was terrible. I swear I could hear her doing other things in the background while talking to me. She also didn’t really seem like she was listening to me. Left a bad taste in my mouth about virtual mental health support.

Even if it was on Zoom or something, it's not like we as blind people can see if they're actually focussed on us. They could be staring off into space, rolling their eyes, checking their watch every five seconds wondering when the hell we're gonna be done, all sorts of things.

@Cam I guess one could argue that they could be doing those things in person and we wouldn’t know either, but there is something comforting sometimes about being with someone in person. Especially for any kind of healthcare. You are absolutely right about feeling like a number when it’s virtual. They don’t know you yet they know so much about you. It just feels dystopian or something. I guess not having to travel and figure out transportation is a nice perk, but personally, I would rather see a counselor or a doctor in person.

This is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion. But I don't believe it violates any rules, so I'm going to say it anyway. People need to get over these celebrity deaths. Oh I'm so broken because this actor/actress died. Oh I'm so torn up because this celebrity passed away. Hey people? Breaking news. Celebrities, actors, actresses, famous people are still people. They are still human beings. They still walk, talk, breathe, eat, piss and shit just like the rest of us. And unfortunately some of them have life ending diseases or conditions, just like us. Unfortunately, some of them have mental health issues and or addiction issues, just like some of us. Their celebrity status does not grant them immortality. Their celebrity status does not grant them immunity from personal problems, mental health issues, or addiction problems. And yes I say problems not challenges because I hate the word challenges. Let's call it what it is. One might die at 105 after living a good long life. One might die at 40 by cancer, or by any other method that anyone of us on the face of this earth could die from. Oh they won't be able to go on and pursue other projects and put out any more material for us. But you know what? Chances are that if they have notoriety, they've already put out tons of material for us to enjoy. Or at least enough to gain said notoriety. And there is always someone else up and coming to take their place. So seriously. Get over it, move on, and live your life. They're dead, you're not. Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your day.
@Cam I don't even know who these two guys are other than people have been mentioning their names. I did cry when Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died because she helped pass quite a bit of caselaw that gave me more rights than I would ordinarily have and I really respected her as a woman who did a lot of good but had to fight really hard to get where she was.

@baxaphobia @Cam They ought to have been but I’m not sure that how huge a group was or is equates to how much their body of work mattered. Three Doors Down specifically had fantastic songs that idiotic mainstream radio never played and should have. I don’t mourn famous people personally so even if I’m still around when Bruce or Willy die I won’t cry or grieve. It’ll just make me have a different appreciation for the huge body of work they gave us. But that’s me. Lots get very emotionally attached to the celebrities and musicians they love. But they’re allowed to do that if they choose. They will both have lived good and long lives with lots to show for it.

@Cam You have a right to your opinion but I've had the opportunity to meet my favorite group & 3 of the family members have died & it wasn't easy for me.

@Cam Very well said. I don't get it either. WE are all born, and yes, we all die. It doesn't matter who you are, or how much money you have, or how famous you might be.
