@pixelate I'm interested in seeing how this one pans out. Some educational establishments may prefer the closed loop system that Android offers rather than providing a general purpose Windows 11 computer that might require more maintenance. I don't think its good for anything else and possibly not even the best option for students either if they don't get trained up on Windows computing, but can see why establishments might want to go that way.

@andrew I mean they can just clamp down on Windows the same way they do staff computers. But meh some IT teams only know Chromebook and iPad so like I can also understand how HIMS thinks sticking with what people already know will keep them their dripping fosset of money.

@pixelate I heard that too. Android 15. I do wonder what the SoC/internal components will be able to handle as far as OS upgradability. Just like the reason the 6 couldn't go past Android 12 had something to do with the Qualcomm board it used.

@TRodick93 Oh gosh see they always say something about "Well this chip means we won't be stuck on outdated Android!" and then hey lookie BS6 is stuck on Android 12. It's really sad and I hope the Braille Note Evolve makes the Sense practically disappear, and Humanware hires out all the disalusioned HIMS employees.

@pixelate Well, what if Windows eventually requires specs that the Evolve can't handle? Hell, look at what happened to computers running Windows 10 that were more than a few years old. They couldn't upgrade to 11 because of things like lacking TPM 2.0 support and such.

@pixelate With respect, what options do they have? Windows is Windows with all its issues, particularly with updates but with everything else too. The Mac is unavailable. iOS is unavailable. There aren't any really good embedded systems with decent UIs left. Linux is still a serious problem. If you want to create a notetaker, which frankly isn't for the user in 2026 but for the buyer to say "look, we've got something", what option besides Android do you have?

@techsinger They should just use Windows.

@pixelate Where would the financial benefit come from? I can buy, off the shelf, a far better machine than anything these makers can produce, and it would be far cheaper. At least with Android, there's an argument that this is customized to the point where you're actually getting something for your money. Also, if you run Windows, don't you risk MS doing some sort of damage to the limited customization you can provide? It's already seriously limited. What if MS breaks it? Again, I'm not at all on the side of these makers, I would no more buy one of these units than I would go back to the perkins brailler and have someone transcribe my writing so it could be put on a PC. My point is what choice do they really have?

@pixelate I'm so late to this party but not sure why this is a bad thing. If Selvas make a good product, which I hear they do, I don't care what OS it runs so long as its secure and going to get updates.
