I don't know what to think of this. Blender was one of the last creative tools not infected by "AI".

Maybe LLMs can handle tedious tasks, but I'm afraid users will resort to it more and more, becoming indolent and gradually losing skills.

@metin the CEO seems to have gotten the message that they have stepped in it big time here (he posted yesterday), but so far I haven't read that the blood money has been returned or anything like that.

@metin At least they give back something, instead of only taking things from FOSS projects.

"€240,000 per year to support Blender’s open-source development."

That is at the "Patron" level, giving them benefits: "As previous and: Press release, tech blogpost, dedicated product manager for your area"

@metin I don't feel like this is a large problem. This doesn't affect the way Blender is developed.

@KJohnson Yeah, but I'm afraid it will affect the way Blender is used, causing skills to decline when LLM use increases for more and more creative tasks. AI-generated textures and models will seep in, and cause a degradation of unique and inspired styles.

@autiomaa Yeah, the sponsoring is nice, but I hope the Patron-level will not give them the ability to influence Blender development towards more LLM integration.

@metin Yeah, "dedicated product manager for your area" sounds like direct influence to Blender development roadmap.

On the list of other Blender corporate sponsors, there are companies like Meta. Blender is likely used on their AR headsets. PDF: https://download.blender.org/foundation/development-fund/blender_development_fund_corporate_membership_overview_2025.pdf
