In the aftermath of the TX dem primary I’m reflecting on the question of “Why is Jasmine Crockett unelectable as a Senator (or other statewide office) in TX in a general election?”

I think it has to do with fear. A wide swath of TXns are white racists who are afraid that an elected black person (& woman) will treat whites the way whites have historically treated them. After all, it’s what they would do if positions were reversed.

    How do we address this?

@thegaffer I don't live in Texas so my opinion doesn't matter but that's never stopped me before!

I like that a guy with a faith-based message won. Put him up against the corrupt adulterer and the Dems have a good chance.

WSJ had an article on Talarico's pluralities in Latino-majority counties. Free gift link: https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/how-talarico-won-over-latino-voters-to-win-the-texas-democratic-senate-primary-96081edf?st=2YxDMw&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

@badbede I agree! And my hope is that this gives faith-based voters the opportunity to break from their Christian Nationalist straight jacket: Do I vote for the corrupt adulterer or for the guy who sounds a lot like Jesus did - love your neighbors, do good to them, love mercy…?

@thegaffer @badbede I mean, there was a ton of election interference that got in Jasmine’s way. The Colbert thing was a monster boon for talarico. Plus all the other white folks who platformed him and not her. The GOP and their pet Supremes utterly fucked up Dallas voting where she’s the rep. So a lot was in play on top of inherent redneck feelings about uppity women. (I’m from here, I may be a redneck, and I know rednecks better than most political analysts. I go riding and shooting with them. Heh.)

I hope the Black anger fades, and we all get behind talarico. I think he has a good chance of beating Cornyn, and an absolutely solid chance of beating Paxton. Everyone outside the cult hates Paxton so much. So much.

I wanna see more press about Huffines, who bought the Epstein ranch in New Mexico. What’s all that about, and why won’t they let investigators on the property?
