    The idea that Donald Trump was a temporary anomaly in American politics that will go back to normal when he’s gone is sadly mistaken. He is a symptom, not the cause.

    He recognized that 40% of the electorate loves white supremacy and if you throw in homophobia/transphobia and low taxes, you could get up to 50%.

    Now the masks are off and they aren’t going back on.

    @carnage4life
    "low HEADLINE taxes"
    America has always used a lot of additional regional/ local taxes to hide their tax take.

      *All* of his posts are, definitionally, indistinguishable from those of a white supremacist.

        @carnage4life Like, I understand that the qualifiers are a liability thing, but dude did a Nazi salute and we all saw it and it would sure be nice if the press didn't treat it as subject to debate.

            @carnage4life Donald is absolutely an anomaly, a man who said to hell with every convention of decency and decorum. His willingness to bend and break rules while simultaneously abandoning even the pretense of bipartisanship is new to American history. He is in every way unprecedented.

              @carnage4life 100%. The speaker of the House is just as bad. A Christofascist to the bone.

                Sorry to nitpick, but I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “the electorate” - only 22% of Americans supported Trump by casting a vote for him. This is very similar to the levels of support the Nazis had when they seized control of Germany.
                I’m not arguing against your basic point though: this 1/5 to 1/4 of Americans aren’t going to just put their masks back on quietly.
                But also 1/2 of Americans are sitting on their hands unsure what to do, and I can guarantee it isn’t a promised return to the status quo that will get them off their duffs… change is coming one way or another.

                  @carnage4life the masks were off before WWII but (kind of) came back on after that (if you were not black)

                      Very much agreed. And as a Black trans person, this is why the anti #Trump rallies have not given me much hope.
