(BONUS POLL)
Which of the following music media, if someone suddenly handed you a piece of music recorded on it, would you be able to play without making additional purchases?
NOTES:
- If the answer is "none of the above" ,click "Show results". We can probably compare the previous poll to judge the significance of the scale of responses.
- Rather than worrying about differences between reel-to-reel formats, answer "reel to reel tape" if you can play at least one reel to reel tape format.
@mcc I want a reel-to-reel at some point, but I haven't taken the time to get a space to set up my full system so it's pointless to buy one right now.

Poll: Which of the following music media, if someone suddenly handed you a piece of music recorded on it, would you be able to play without making additional purchases?
@mcc I don't know many people that kept 8-track tapes around. Those were probably one of the biggest media mis-fires of all time.

Poll: Which of the following music media, if someone suddenly handed you a piece of music recorded on it, would you be able to play without making additional purchases?
@mcc I think I have the hardware to play a CD on a PC. I'd have to pull a hard drive and stick in a BlueRay. I do believe it's SATA and not IDE.
I actually have a 94 civic with a cassette player in it. Very old school radio. When I bought the car a cassette on the dash still had it's guts hanging out the mouth of the player. So it might not play the whole thing and the tape might not survive it...if it does actually play at all.
Actually, I think my mom has my turntable. Old trunk style

@mcc As expected, Red Book is what most participants would tick. I have a bunch of still working CD/DVD/BD drives that are compatible with CD-DA. Mostly recent models. Miss the headphone jack, play button and volume dial.

I used to have an 8-track cassette player in my home stereo. But that was a LONG time ago. The others I have a current player with an option to record to USB stick. -
Poll: Which of the following music media, if someone suddenly handed you a piece of music recorded on it, would you be able to play without making additional purchases?
@mcc oddly enough, the only reason I can play cassette tapes is that i have the Radio Shack CTR-80A "Computer Cassette Recorder" for my TRS-80 colour computer, which also can be used standalone as a portable audio cassette player. It even has a built-in mic and speaker and can run off batteries (four C-cells).
I assume it was an existing cassette recorder model where they wired up an extra plug on the side that let the computer control the play/pause on the tape mechanism, then included the adapter to the DIN plug in the box.

Poll: Which of the following music media, if someone suddenly handed you a piece of music recorded on it, would you be able to play without making additional purchases?
@mcc
I'm not kidding about having an 8-track player! It was included as a component in a combined AM/FM radio and 8-track player. The radio is still in regular use, because it is an excellent stereo set with an antenna and two good speakers. No modern radio can beat it. Sadly, we haven't seen an 8-track tape in years. But if one should ever fall into our hands, we would be able to play it! -
