The Man Who Built the Next Internet and Then Disappeared — Node Star

For nearly a decade, Mark Qvist built a privacy-first protocol from scratch, alone, and gave it away for free. Then he walked away. Here's what happened next.

@UrbanCityCowboy @perlman also worth noting why he did close the repo for issues and PRs - people (users) just feel entitled.

@perlman @daks the website looks AI generated (Claude Code style). Is the content generated too?

@Julianoe @daks Amazing eye. Not the content, but the HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, yes. Started using it recently and pretty happy with it.

@perlman @daks after seing site after site like this I've started to assemble a tracklist of websites who share that very same aesthetics or design similarities. It goes on the list of examples 😉

Thanks for responding. being transparent about it on the website would be a + Imho. The theme targets rather technical people and some might have the same reflex as me: "oh is this website really legit? I've seen a lot of websites like this recently made by AI and the content might be too"

@perlman @Julianoe @daks I was happy to see this important comparison. It is irrelevant what tools are used to make a site. I found it very readable.

@perlman Do the various forks yield interoperability? Can a reticulum message reach someone running the other "versions"? Or is this a Betamax vs VHS thing?

@adingbatponder @perlman @daks yes it is. Because when you share information people are going to spend time and energy reading and working on to learn from, you'd rather not see them skip your work because they feel it might have been produced with the intent of just babbling content with no expertise, just for clout, or ads revenue, or influence, or cybersquatting a domain. All those scenarios are very common uses of AI generated content that "look legit" and ends up being a waste of time
