@tylerlwsmith hi there, I’d recommend to follow hashtags and particular bots. Its nice that you can make your individual timeline on Mastodon. Following hashtags also helps with finding likeminded people, that share your interests. Have fun!

Following people with similar interests is cool and all.

But what I like is people who have different interests and experience.

The mediaeval historian who went investigating why eels where everywhere in records of the time.

The guy trying to work out why there is a faint am radio station replaying the same songs everyday, where there shouldn't be any signal

The bee keeper
The info sec guy
People doing niche hobbies
The retro computer people

Stuff I didn't know about, but have learnt from.

Add some artists, pet pictures, nature photos etc to cleanse

@tylerlwsmith Very likely everyone must be telling you that your query matches, well, almost everyone here? Best piece of advice: find some people and then check who they follow if they allow it. Also, follow some super retooters like @PixelRobot and check @FediFollows

That's how I found most individual people I follow — by seeing their posts in my hashtag follow feed.
