    Does MacKenzie Scott have a fanclub, and can I please be a charter member? Asking for a friend. Who is actually me. By friend I am referring to myself, Jeff Atwood. That's what I am implying. I mean, maybe I am. https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbeswealthteam/2026/02/09/americas-top-25-philanthropists---and-why-musk-page-and-ellison-arent-on-the-list/

      @codinghorror @VoiceofDuum We probably wouldn't need so many billionaire philanthropists if we had more billionaire taxpayers.

        @mlanger @codinghorror @VoiceofDuum I think you mean "if our government spent money on helping people instead of buying weapons, we wouldn't need philanthropists to keep people alive, they could donate their money to the arts instead"

            @codinghorror Theoretically, having elected representatives haggle over spending the $$$ is better than relying on the whims of plutocrats.

            Theoretically. Trump administration, not so much.

              @codinghorror

              I guess $24.6 B isn't enough to end homelessness anywhere. so, what aspect of society has been improved by her largess?

                @rpluim @codinghorror @VoiceofDuum No, that wasn’t what I meant, but it isn’t a bad idea. Maybe both things could be true? Billionaires pay taxes and the government doesn’t piss taxpayer money away?
