FIFA is panicking: World Cup hotel cancellations are surging as global fans ditch the U.S., citing soaring costs, visa bonds, and Trump’s dictatorial behavior.

Turns out nobody wants to pay $1,000 a night just to experience an authoritarian simulation.

@weyoun6 @Strandjunker There are reports like this:
            https://www.ahla.com/news/new-report-warns-world-cup-hotel-boom-may-fall-short-expectations

Quote: "Los Angeles - Nearly 65-70% of respondents report booking pace below expectations, often in line with or lagging behind a typical summer."

Actual 1930's Nazi German fascism in the current 2026 United States. No simulation and no drill, it is real fascism.

Still I think Trump is cosplaying the 1930s scenario. A senile megalomaniac narcissist…

@Strandjunker, what really “needs” to happen is for ICE to detain some people involved in the tournament. Let's say some coaching staff, a few players, a few referees…

They'll be very quick about releasing them, I'm sure of that.

Good. I hope it totally crashes. The orange madman has bragged about it plenty; let that shame his sorry ass. He will no doubt blame trans people, Hakeem Jeffries, maybe Biden.
Some inane conspiracy because "they" are out to get him. But maybe it will hurt a bit too.

@Strandjunker Eh, not exactly how i'd frame it. People have and did when the World Cup was held in authoritarian nations. I'd say it's closer to the bone saying it's more a form of economic protest that the USA is heading that direction. Which is perfectly valid. Giving a no confidence vote with your dollar can be a powerful tool.
