Reminder: most media outlets still distribute their newsfeed via an RSS link even if it's not visible!

What does it mean? You can combine all of them in a single app (Feeder in F-Droid for android devices is great, look for RSS in your app store otherwise) and doomscroll without adds nor selective algorithm.

How to find the link? While most websites removed then classical RSS "broadcast" logo from their social media banner, it's most usually still possible to get the feed by adding "rss" (if not, try with "feed") to the main URL of the website.

    ex: https://mondoweiss.net/rss

What to do with the link? Copypaste it into your reader within the "add link" menu.

    Bonus: here's my own list!

If you already do use RSS feeds, what are your favorite medias and readers?

@adalanerd We love RSS! It’s one of the reasons why we kickstarted and created Tapestry for iOS and macOS. Being able to filter unwanted content across RSS, Mastodon, Bluesky, YouTube and more at the same time is a game changer.

I've tried just about all of them and haven't found a reason yet to leave Feedly.

@adalanerd There's a nifty #Firefox extension that lets you know if a website you're on has a RSS feed, by displaying a RSS icon in the address bar, and allowing you to see the exact feed URL. Very helpful, I've been using it for many years now.

                @adalanerd I use the very fine @NetNewsWire

And I’m happy I have relatively two local news sources that publish RSS feeds: CBC and CityNews.
Most of my feeds are more IT news by the ways of my professional work.

@adalanerd I use Feedly, which runs in a web browser.

To find the URL of the feed on a web site, I generally find it necessary to do a view-source and then search for "atom" or "rss", which is tedious, but Feedly also has a search feature.

I find it far more convenient to find articles that interest me by browsing RSS from this one application than by visiting each site one by one. I'm following about 175 sites, sorted into topical folders, such as News, Food, Tech.

                            @adalanerd

Nice thread! I am in the act of switching over to RSS.

I use RSS Mobile on iOS. It is an old app basic and no adds. Then the Vivaldi browser's built in RSS reader.

I'm in sound-art-noise orbits and have venue RSS feeds on my reader - seems if it is a CMS blog there is RSS. This is great cuz so many venues and booking agents are on meta & I deleted my meta account.

Last bit, I made my own RSS using XML - so crazy dang EASY to do‼️

                            http://theplanes.work/rss.xml

@adalanerd I've installed the nextcloud news app in my self hosted nextcloud Server. I personally love this since I can use the nextcloud news app for android and got my feeds and read status synched.

What works for me is to have the articles show up in a different order in the app (oldest to newest) and the the browser (newest to oldest). So I'm marking the articles I want to read alter in the browser and then get sure I'm not missing them when reading on the app.

@adalanerd I've gotten good mileage out of the "Get RSS Feed URL" extension on Firefox, especially when I'm unfamiliar with the site's underlying software and can't guess the feed URL.

I use elfeed on Emacs as my reader, and follow friends' blogs as well as sites relevant to my interests:

                                History

Pasts Imperfect feed (liberationist antiquities newsletter): https://pasts-imperfect.ghost.io/rss/
The History Girls feed (women writing about history): https://the-history-girls.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
                                Archaeology News feed: https://archaeologymag.com/feed/

                                Books/writing

Writer Unboxed feed (writing craft and meta): https://writerunboxed.com/feed/
Authors Publish feed (publishing opportunities): https://authorspublish.com/feed

I use Inoreader. Works fine for me. Free up to 150 feeds.

If you use Vivaldi browser, it will put a little RSS icon on the URL bar, when it automatically finds a feed for a website. From the icon you can easily copy the feed. For other browsers there are extensions that do that too
