I've never understood the name oystercatcher. What's the deal? Oysters aren't exactly the snappiest movers around.

It seems to be a group in North America that eat oysters. The European ones eat almost anything.

So, ineptly named.

I'm guessing no-one asked the birds, or public. See Wikipedia.

You'd brag about catching the razor shells (in Ireland, not sure species, maybe three kinds). They dig very fast and can squirt to help dig.

For the record, the German name is "Austernfischer" - "Oyster Fisher", which seems more apt.
