Interesting article regarding GrapheneOS; which contains this observation:
"If Motorola sells devices with GrapheneOS pre-installed, those devices would need to comply with local regulations in every market where they ship, or Motorola may need to restrict sales geographically."
GrapheneOS refuses to comply with new age verification laws for operating systems — group says it will never require personal information
Doesn’t care if its devices can’t be sold in regions that require ID verification.

@simonzerafa The GrapheneOS team already stated, that they will not comply with any age verification laws, even if that means not being able to sell devices in some regions.

GrapheneOS will remain usable by anyone around the world without requiring personal information, identification or an account. GrapheneOS and our services will remain available internationally. If GrapheneOS devices can't be sold in a region due to their regulations, so be it.

@simonzerafa People can buy the devices without GrapheneOS and install it themselves in any region where that's an issue. Motorola devices with GrapheneOS preinstalled is something we want but it doesn't have to happen right away and doesn't need to happen everywhere for the partnership to be highly successful. Pixels are sold in 33 countries which doesn't include many countries outside North America and Europe.

@simonzerafa IMHO, it's open source software. What can the team even do? If they block the location from downloading their software that could actually be a licensing violation.

@GrapheneOS Regarding that: What will the bootloader unlocking process on Motorola devices look like? Will enabling OEM unlocking require an internet connection, like it does on Pixels?

@GrapheneOS @simonzerafa As long as GrapheneOS supports the hardware, I‘m perfectly fine with installing it myself.

The web installer massively lowered the barrier. Meanwhile, doing it manually remains an option too. The switch from Signify to SSH keys means that even more platforms are supported.

Indeed. Strangely enough I did actually read the article I mentioned in my posting.
