@NicksWorld @Kingslayer I don't. Not with that price point and what's been going on with them. Their Europe customer base had to be refunded after being promised units when they came out. Not a good look for them.

@NicksWorld @Kingslayer The white cane isn't a one size fits all thing, though. It's not as simple as that, Nick. I've had a guide dog and even though I had plenty of problems, the way we moved was so freeing. With a cane when you encounter an obsticle the cane hits it. A dog will either show you what the obsticle is or just take you around it. Being able to just move with that sort of fuidity was amazing. I honestly hate my cane sometimes. I don't have the speed of movement that I used to have, but also a dog can break the ice in social situations. The white cane has a lot of unspoken stigmas attached to it. When I worked at a summer camp for kids with disabilities back in 2017 I got so much more from people because of my dog. My friend who was a cane user struggled in social situations where I did not. Sure I can chalk half of his struggles to his social skills not being the best, but really, it was because I had a dog and we both knew it.
@MariahL @NicksWorld @Kingslayer I agree with that. When I had my guide dog, the only way I can describe it is liberating. Once you learn to put your trust in the dog, and you both learn to work as a team, everything just goes way through the roof. And I agree on the dog making one more approachable. Everything just goes up.

@MariahL @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer I guess I'd have to work with a guidedog for me to understand, because I don't know what its like. Would it not take more effert mentally traveling with a dog? or does it take less?

@NicksWorld @MariahL @Kingslayer If you go to a quality school, they'll teach you how to travel with them. But most schools will want to make sure that your O N M skills are up to scratch, or you won't get a dog.

@vol4life8657 @NicksWorld @Kingslayer The only difference is out loud directions and commands. You still have to know where you're going as you would with a cane, you still have to have good mobility, like you would with a cane. The big difference is you move quicker because you're being guided by a thing that can see.

Controversial opinion. I don't want a service dog purely because I don't want to deal with the bullshit of the human race. A cane at least is less of a problem, to most people, its just a stick. Nobody has a problem with a stick. #Blind
@NicksWorld I don't think the opinion is particularly controversial, it's one reason not to have a dog. It's not my reason, if people don't want to obey their local law, that's their problem and I'm happy to complain. The vast majority won't cause an issue, though they may not like having the dog around. Personally, I don't like dogs and other animals, so don't want one even if everyone is very accepting. If the reactions of others is your reason, you have a right to your reasons. Keep in mind, though, that there is a significant number of people who think blind people shouldn't be on their own at all. One can't let people run one's life, just because the demands never end and the majority of life would be spent putting up with other peoples' folly. I do enough of that already as I'm sure you do

@NicksWorld @MariahL @Kingslayer And that is the difference between a cane and a dog. It's not that the dog automagically knows your routes but eventually it will learn them as you do, and then the mental work is balanced.

@NicksWorld @Kingslayer I'm not judging those who want to use a cane, a dog isn't for everyone, but you can't say that all the problems would go away if everybody just used a cane because that statement isn't true. I've been denied because of my cane before. I've had uber drivers see me and drive away. It's not as much of an issue but it does still exist.
@MariahL @NicksWorld @Kingslayer I agree. Being blind is stigmatized, unfortunately. Some of that is justified, most of it isn't. Whatever you like to use, though, and I even include sighted guides, you'll have to deal with that to some extent.

I'm just a very anxious person and not good with confrontation so my main fear was all the assholes. But man, the idea of being able to get around faster and with more confidence and having an extra set of senses on the lookout while navigating and just the companionship of traveling with a dog all sound like the dream!

@vol4life8657 @NicksWorld @Kingslayer that's a good way of putting it. One of the biggest things for me was how my dog just flew through crowded areas. My moment of pure trust happened in a mall of all places. My dog and I were walking through a huge crowd. It was spring break, I was visiting a friend, there were plenty of obsticles and people and the way he handled himself that day was so amazing. He found his way through congested areas, he took me around things without a hitch, he was such a good boy. That moment of holy shit I trust him 100 percent shook me.
