    @gamingonlinux
Better use Local LLM's and only use Training Data from legal licenses. Actually CC0, MIT or BSD Licenses could be compatible with legally AI training i guess. We need better Licensing on AI Training Data.

@Chris2000SP @gamingonlinux Even if the training data was untainted, the AI generated code cannot be GPLed, because it was not generated by a human.

@gamingonlinux I suspect that they may not realize that by publicly admitting to hiding the attribution, they likely just forfeited their copyright to any changes made by them after they first started using "AI", at least here in the US. "AI" generated code cannot claim a copyright under current US law, and the current standing interpretation (all the way up to "supreme court refused to hear it", so somewhat binding) is that when the human-written portions are not clearly marked, they can't grant copyright to them, so the entire work is thus public domain as it's impossible to tell what can be copyrighted.

Though with something as "distributed" as a git repo, commits from anyone that doesn't use AI (or were made before the dumbass in question completely lost it) would likely still have copyright, thus the license isn't entirely void. Just that the maintainer has quite solidly shot their foot off if they ever want to enforce the license here in the US.

Even If IT IS AI Generated, a Human has to Upload and Paste IT. Also a Human Trigger the Exekution of a Program and Not the AI. The Power to execute still lies with humans. The Human has the responsibility to that anyway.

Frankly tired of Wine getting stuffed into launchers and background processes, instead of being treated as a cheap/RAM-efficient/auditable alternative to running a Windows VM.

                    1) Well, more people using it is a fact that they will need to keep expanding. Saying otherwise is just ignorant.

                    2) Copyright is an issue. Again, you must be insanely ignorant if you don't think it is. The US even just struck down copyright for AI generated works. Look it up.

Perhaps get informed before making stupid replies at me?

But know that you're actively hurting open source development by supporting people abusing GitHub to file false reports, wasting hard working developers' time who are doing it FOR FREE, only because you're worried about 'copyright'. Great job, yeah great, Ayn Rand.

@gunther @gamingonlinux the issue is that developers can't be transparent because of the outrage. It only creates an incentive to hide and lie. Once again, the outrage is directed at a regular person trying to do something good for the community, as if they were responsible for every bad decision made by the CEOs.

@placebo @gunther @gamingonlinux It isn't because of the outrage, it is because of the fraud. Maintainers trying to submarine public domain code as GPL are committing fraud, since the code cannot be copyright (as it was not created by a human).

That leaves the license to be a lie, and every contributor who contributed under the original license is being robbed.

It's a typical self entitled reaction by some users to free software development.

@gamingonlinux overall an unpleasant situation. The issue reads like an insult "is lutris slop now" and was responded to with defensiveness (hiding claude co authorship). There were no heroes here and nothing of substance was achieved. In a better world this would've been a productive discussion

@Xtrems876 @gamingonlinux but it is slop. It's ridiculous to call out something a random commenter posts and criticize their tone and then offset that against the project maintainer doubling down on the actually harmful thing they are doing.

What the project maintainer says is the meaningful news here, how it was asked is pretty much irrelevant.

@Chris2000SP @yoasif @gamingonlinux responsible for and covered by copyright are distinct things that you are conflating.
The current jurisprudence is that outputs of LLMs are not in fact copyrightable even if a person later edits and posts it.

@gamingonlinux Your stated opinion in the piece, stating "Every extra person using all these AI tools is only adding to the issue." and "Not just that but copyright becomes an issue. Who actually owns the generated code? And now it's being hidden, how can anyone tell? Can you even truly claim it's open source when it's using AI generated code?" belies an ignorance of software development and an unhelpful bias of reporting. Open source projects don't need idiots swarming them.

@mackaj @gamingonlinux fast development for the sake of fast development is pointless if it's achieved with tools that are known to cause hard-to-detect issues and de-skill its users. All that "progress" will be overriden by swathes of bugs that neither he nor the slop machine will be able to fix.

Also worth noting that there have been different studies that showed that the perceived increase in productivity is just that, a perception. The actual results are an equal or slower development speed

@gamingonlinux The main issue I have with this is them hiding which parts are AI generated. Open-source should always have that clearly labelled, as anything AI generated really

@Konim96 @gamingonlinux that's the point, if you can't tell it really doesn't matter.

@Kiloku Studies also show that there can be increases in productivity depending on how you use it, but you get similar increases using other auto completion tools that are not gen AI, like function templates.
