    Sounds like AI crap making everything else more expensive, again.

      @tdp_org I was at Cisco Live in Amsterdam this time last year, and their two main marketing pushes that year were effectively "AI IN SWITCHES, AI IN ROUTERS, AI IN FIREWALLS, AI EVERYWHERE!!!!11!!!111!!!πŸ₯³", and "You should be thinking about the planet and cutting down on your energy usage. Here are all our new power management products".

      In one of the Power/Enviro sessions I had the temerity to ask how this aligned with the big AI push, and was met with a stony silence πŸ˜€

        @tdp_org No doubt there. Although despite their size, at least the energy costs should have been factored into their pricing to you initially so I hope it’s a future increase in price. Sorry, thinking rationally πŸ˜‚ But yeah, at least we can all look at shitty AI crap online

          So I wonder what inflation will look like in six months time? πŸ˜•

            @tdp_org also in many countries genuine demand supply mismatches caused by underinvestment and in one by someone breaking all the renewables. Easy to blame AI and it's certainly part of it but not all

              @simonzerafa Good Q. I have no idea but am hoping the bubble beings to deflate and things get at least slightly more reasonable.
              Another CDN supplier told us yesterday that they were smart enough to buy all the kit they need for this FY a few months back, just before the RAM price inflation went to the moon.

                @tdp_org

                I ordered PC parts just in time, especially DDR5 RAM.

                Hopefully I won't need any further expensive parts for a while πŸ˜•

                However if electricity prices start to go up broadly, then that will have consequences for prices across the board, for just about everying.

                  @simonzerafa @tdp_org I wish I was that smart. I passed up buying a laptop in Nov last year hoping to get through the holidays, now the prices have jumped over $200 and some RAM options are not even available.

                    The better option now might be looking at refurbished laptops. There is usually a steady supply of ex-business models available.

                    I generally go for Lenovo models as they are generally plentiful. Some models come with fixed non-upgradable RAM so it's not likely to have been downgraded πŸ˜‰ Get thrbspec you need now, before they get even more expensive 😟
