    The reality is that we do NOT yet understand all the potential impacts of these new services. They can bring life-changing #Internet to so many people with few (or no) other options.. but at what cost?

      @danyork Thanks for putting it this way. The obnoxious part (in my opinion) is that this shouldn't be a choice. There should be responsible ways to bring internet to people in rural and remote locations (like where I live!) that don't require thousands of disposable satellites. This is the engineering challenge: how do you provide these services with fewer satellites that have longer operational lifetimes?

        @danyork@mastodon.social I wonder how much fiber could be laid for the environmental/labor/monetary cost of launching one lousy satellite...
