I tried to introduce my son, Alex, to programming when he was young. He wasn’t interested. But he eventually found his way to it on his own. By the time Alex graduated high school, he had put his first app into the App Store.
Now, after 4 years at WPI, Alex has a BS in Computer Science and a Master’s in Data Science, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. (Yes, he received the maximum possible grade in every undergraduate and graduate class he took in all 4 years!)
We are immensely proud of him!
️@siracusa amazing! Congratulations Alex!!!

️@siracusa Congrats!

Apple folks: Alex has been applying to open positions at Apple, and he is willing relocate to California. But so far, he hasn’t gotten any sort of response. If you want a smart, dedicated developer who’s a fast learner, please check out his resume, which is already in your system!
@siracusa anything for the friends and family discount?

Joke aside! Congrats Alex!

️@siracusa wow you must be immensely proud. What a dedicated and hard working student he must have been

@siracusa is he interested in a data science career? It’s all the fun of programming & the fun of statistics combined & very trendy with the AI/LLM people.
(I’m not hiring sadly and I also live in Ireland, but it’s worth checking out - Apple are hiring like mad as well in that area, maybe he can fix Siri )@DrChris He is, and he's applying to all kinds of positions. Like I said, he hasn't heard a peep from Apple despite many applications.

️@siracusa Congratulations! My absolute favorite college to do a show. Their “Lens And Lights” club were better crew than most professional house crews.

@siracusa I hope he hears back soon - I have heard it is rough out there

️@siracusa Got a photo with the special master’s sleeves on display?
Congrats to the graduate for his achievement, and to the parents for all their support!

@marinaepelman If you mean the weird things that extend past where his hands come out, they weren’t that impressive. PhD robes are where it’s at!

️@siracusa Wow, congratulations to Alex and his parents.
I have “tried” to pull my kids to engineering but no luck and all the luck. Coincidentally I will be joining my son next weekend getting his diploma after 6 years at the university studying to be a doctor. Just “yesterday” he was playing Minecraft… they grow too fast.
Again congratulations to Alex, he got his father’s computing-talent genes

Also on my mind: my son may be part of the last generation of programmers to have learned to program in the days before LLMs.
@siracusa I was in Photography school from 2002-2006 and saw firsthand the transition from a film focus to a digital focus. Wild stuff.

@siracusa With academic regalia, the goofier the better, in my opinion. And those sleeves are definitely goofy.

@siracusa here's a data science role in my org that I believe would be right up his alley:
Data Scientist - Synthetic Data and ML Evaluations - Special Projects - Jobs - Careers at Apple
Apply for a Data Scientist - Synthetic Data and ML Evaluations - Special Projects job at Apple. Read about the role and find out if it’s right for you.
(jobs.apple.com)
DM me if he’s interested. We are actively looking for new college grads.
