@simonzerafa @lcamtuf there's another book in there with a very elegant counter proof that was too long to put into the margins of the first vook

@lcamtuf it would be funnier if the B stood for Benoit B, not Benoit

@Jorsh @lcamtuf it might not be. Mandelbrot started adding the B. as a middle name but said it didn't meant anything. (so maybe he had that joke in mind)

@stringlapse Hmm, almost. Since the pattern to be replaced, as per the original toot, is "B.", if we treat that dot as a regexp metacharacter, we get "benoit b. mandelbenoit b. mandelbrotot" @lcamtuf

@vikxin The bit about the circumflex is easily explained. His family was Lithuanian, and he was born in Poland. They were not originally French. While Lithuanian and Polish orthography have numerous diacritics, the circumflex is not among them. It would be unlikely to be used in anyone's name, even if it was of foreign origin. This happens with French names used as English given names, too: Éric > Eric, François > Francis, Théodore > Theodore, Frédéric > Frederic, etc.
