There's never been a worse time to be a cyber defender than at present.
Not because of AI cyber incidents - this isn't happening in the trenches, but because of GenAI cyber vendors have figured out how to exploit executive fear for cash.
They're directly pissing in the face of everybody and asking for money. The GenAI golden shower.
The current situation will not be sustainable for defenders, business as usual is being neglected while a few orgs try to trouser money by misdirecting attention.

@GossiTheDog This is a cyclical thing in the cyber industry (millions for fly-by-night companies exploiting the latest hype, not one cent for basic vulnerability management) but it definitely seems worse now since AI is also being used to deskill workers.

@wendynather I need to modify the character limit on Mastodon instance as I also wrote "I don't like being pissed on", but I had to cut it due to length

@GossiTheDog lol, showing my age but when you say 'cyber' defender my first thought was seedy chatrooms and people spamming 'asl?' Also lol at AI Golden shower, will be using that in future.

@GossiTheDog We are all in the "GenAI Golden Shower" timeline

@GossiTheDog
The paranoid in me even thinks that all these security findings in such a short time may be part of a coordinated plan to raise fear. And cash. -

@GossiTheDog rant about this all the time. All my homies are begging for basic tools that can cost literally 10-100k, instead bosses will be working $3m dollar deal to get everyone AI that they have no idea how to use

@MisuseCase @GossiTheDog its real "lets have a baby to save the relationship" vibe out there. i get the sense folks feel overwhelmed and cant or wont bring themselves to do nuts-and-bolts stuff like get their dns straight. so they chase after ZipZorp that is promising 0 friction 0 skill needed fixes that can still flatter you, the overwhelmed exec, specifically

@GossiTheDog I keep saying that the real defense is in the fundamentals, and it's often cheap. Problem is that it means facing and addressing your own faults. It's introspective, boring, and sometimes painful.
Buying AI tools is much more exciting for the execs.
I sometimes feel like a teenager who really wants to tidy up, then a parent busts into my room shouting "You don't need to clean this place, let's get some fast food and go toy shopping!"
