@regehr This reminds me of the Good Morning Burger from The Simpsons (which I have made--once).

@regehr with like idaho spuds hashbrowns I could see the vision. I actually have something similar for a regular breakfast item, just without the onions

@regehr There was a place where I grew up called Fast Eddie's. They used to have burgers for 29 cents as a special.

When sobriety was not on the table, those burgers sure as hell were.

@regehr yours probably doesn't have 10s of years of griddle char to properly season everything fried.

@regehr I worked in Chicago 20 years ago and there was this restaurant that served what they called the “breakfast energizer.” Very similar concoction. A bed of hashbrowns, onions, cheese, eggs on a big ass oval platter. It was massive. Decorated with a sprig of parsley and a referral to a cardiologist.

Similarly glorious. Also similar in how often one can/should eat it.

@regehr Looks like the price of a burger is about 10x more than when I was in high school.

@regehr Yeah, eating out was a treat when I was young (and well into university). I remember when I got stitches out my dad promising me we'd go to McDonald's if I didn't cry. I didn't cry. We didn't go to McDonald's. (I still didn't cry.)

But those drunk garbage food binges were a helluva a lot of fun.

anyway, before Big Ed's closed (the owner apparently had a gambling problem and borrowed a lot of money before leaving town suddenly), one of the items on the menu was The Godawful: a huge pile of hash browns topped with chili topped with fried eggs topped with cheese topped with raw onions. with a bit of hot sauce it was a glorious, perfect food. you could not eat it very often and survive, but still it was amazing.

@regehr OK, I've got leftover chili in the fridge! I might have to scrounge for the tater tots, but this sounds amazing.

@regehr @gwozniak I remember grabbing a full-pounder with bacon and a fried egg and no veg from a van in Cambridge after a pub meet back in the 00s - I go easier these days (she says after an "all you can eat" full breakfast), but runny-enough yolk should be its own food group

@regehr oh sure, it probably also causes fewer heart attacks.

                                          I took a few liberties:
                                          - tater tots since I didn't have time to make real hash browns
                                          - shallots instead of onions (too strong!! will not repeat)
                                          - just one fried egg

                                          @regehr Wait what,

                                          > shallots instead of onions (too strong!! will not repeat)

I always use shallots when I want something oniony but weaker.
