I don't think there were any negotiations. Our president thought this would work and they just played a game of chicken and he blinked.

All the news of talks sounds like lies because not a word of it can be verified.

@futurebird It's complicated. We're thinking about negotiations as two teams sitting in a conference room with piles if documents. It seems this was more like a 3rd party talking to each side and saying "well, if we get them to agree to A , will you consider agreeing to B?"

@futurebird Calling for a genocide is still a war crime, which he did in public. He won't face repercussions, I'm sure, but if he thinks this gets him out of anything, he is wrong as usual.

              "He won't face repercussions"

Don't say that. I am committed to this happening and I think a lot of other people agree.

              Don't just give up.

War crimes are war crimes and I won't forget anything.

@futurebird Thank you. I do sometimes fall into despair, and I shouldn't - it leads to fatalism. OK, let's say it won't be easy to get him into international court, so we'd better start figuring out how to make it happen. 💪

You know who else was also VERY upset by this? A whole bunch of conservatives I never agree with on anything else: Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, MTG, many others. Odious people, but not even they have the stomach for threats of genocide in an obvious blundering war of choice.

This makes the whole country look thuggish and foolish and I think they know that too.

@futurebird I've seen some claim it was a market manipulation thing. We know several people around him do make various investments right before he makes a crazy announcement, then when he suddenly walks it back after the market crashes they make serious bank as the market tries to recover again.

It's definitely a fact that Trump is not in any negotiations with the leaders of Iran. They have not only not agreed to any of his demands, they make demands of the exact opposite from him.

@futurebird Don't quote me on this but as far as I can tell from the current credible reporting there *were* negotiations but they were between Pakistan and JD Vance. Trump probably doesn't know what he agreed to and I'm only somewhat more confident Iran knows what they agreed to

The thing about negotiations is it's all about both sides saying the same things publicly through their own channels even if all they say is "we are having talks" I feel that if you don't have that you kind of have nothing?

But maybe this is a new kind of war. Temper-tantrum warfare.

The people of the Iran and the US and much of the rest of the world are being frightened over and over for no reason. It's abusive.

And I must mention that the people of Iran are also being bombed, but the threat of nuclear war is on another level even if you've seen your city be hit.

And this buffoon has done his best to bring as many people to a place where NOT thinking about that as a possibility is just ignoring reality.

No one should ever forgive him for doing this.
