One of the reasons Floss Dot Social only has 652 accounts left is that people keep leaving.
The biggest reason people leave is that the administration there are control freaks. For example, they tend to randomly suspend people’s accounts — mine included (reason unknown).
Interestingly enough, when you’re an open-source project and one of your larger financial contributors, along with a few others, informs you that they can’t even follow your social media account because of that control freak’s behavior, you tend to feel motivated to relocate.

By contrast, Fosstodon Dot Org, another FOSS community, has over 8,000+ people happily using its services — without any heavy-handedness or needless drama.

@NetscapeNavigator Pretty sure they kept hiring fascist mods and admins at one point. Can't entirely remember but it was something like that at one point.
