Hey everyone, can any peeps recommend Discord (or just messaging in general) alternatives?

Or maybe I should just switch to IRC, who knows?

Preferably something that works on iOS and macOS as well as the web.

@lixou I was genuinely thinking of planning out my own platform but I'm not smart enough to do it all myself.

I'd love to start a project like that but I'd need a huge helping force, I don't know much in this area, only really some.

Meanwhile, I'm informing the Arikoto Discord that I plan to move the community out before March (I dunno where) and also apologising for the suddenness.

If you have a community already and don't need some of the newer bells and whistles, IRC is _still_ around. Come say hi at Libera.chat ##fediverse.lounge

Depends - on IRC, msgs are ephemeral, there's no retention unless you have a persistent client open to receive em. No file transfer, no voice. In some ways an IRC channel and a bulletin board for the persistant stuff are all you need.

Don't discount a return to an old BBS style forum platform. NodeBB is one I've played around with. Discourse, myBB etc.

IRC and XMPP are just real time chatting platforms, discord has more functionality, especially related to voice chat
