    Meaning: We stole all your knowledge , writing, and art, and now we’re gonna put a meter on it and sell it back to you. You’re welcome.”

      @Climatehistories

      And what next?

      Will you charge me for the air I breathe?

      Will you charge me for the sunlight I use to see the world?

      Will I need a subscription to feel my own emotions?

      This is absolutely monstrous.

          @Climatehistories make higher education either impossible to get or so expensive nobody can afford it, then charge a subscription that allows them to earn money in a professional role, education is the only thing that doesn't have a lifelong subscription requirement, they want to change that...

            @Climatehistories before Altman can sell us intelligence, he will first have to steal it from the technical journal publishers, I suppose.

              In response to that post about Altman’s ‘future of intelligence', @Kierkegaanks suggested I watch the movie Idiocracy. (Thank you!)
              I did last night, and I’d recommend it.

              It's technically a comedy, but also a disturbingly accurate preview of the United States and its proud, ongoing project of engineering stupidity.

                @Climatehistories @Kierkegaanks I hate the eugenicist intro - idiocracy is happening before our eyes not because of genetics / population dynamics ("nature"), but due to societal ("nurture") effects. Both the idiots in charge, and their voter/user base are not inbred, they have some decent level of education and are not extremely poor.

                    @rubinjoni @Kierkegaanks Agreed, it's not the best introduction.

                    Still, the point connects to a broader issue.
                    The basic ability to reason, decide, and choose, particularly when it comes to women deciding what happens to their own bodies.

                      @Climatehistories Monetizing EVERYTHING is dehumanizing. But I guess that's the point.
