It occurs to me that there are other voices we should be listening to that aren't European or American in our internet spaces.

So Fediverse who else should we be reading when we worry about Internet Freedom?

About the centralisation dangers and censorship on the internet?

    Who are we drowning out?

    EDIT:

Like seriously, if you have a suggestion please reply. I'm enthusiastically asking.

@onepict I tend to boost them when I see them, and I often write from a systems perspective on topics related to privacy, et al, from a global perspective.

Been involved at the WSIS level in the past, the LAC region (pretty much a lost cause), etc.

    Writing's on KnowProSE.com, increasingly so.

Not self promoting. Looking for like minds myself.

@violetmadder @onepict As an #autistic, #Mastodon is one of the only Social media platforms I can stomach, as it's toned down, with no invasive, distracting garbage built into the platform. No ads, no algorithms, just a small army of abrasive, sensationalist, agenda-loudmouthed people needing to be muted and blocked. Then it's awesome.

          @onepict @info @fluconf Nice.

It's a common thread in privacy circles derived from the digital shadow that goes back to data shadow from Kristen Aner...

You might want to take a look at the Stochastic Penal Colony with the digital twin in mind... I worked from Robert Grimm's excellent paper I found here on Mastodon. Linked in the post.

Digital Twins also get us in trouble in interesting ways. In some ways, the Internet has become a stochastic penal colony, but I'm getting ahead of myself. 🙂

@onepict Yeah - I was introduced to it through Daniel J. Solove's book. He's weirdly active on LinkedIn, worth a follow there, though he tends to be deeper in international law with a focus on US law.

Reading your stuff now. Loving the wizard-mana metaphor.

@onepict @fluconf This was a pleasure to read. It's nice to see like writing from a different cauldron.

On KnowProSE.com, I tend to be more systems neutral and say, "What do you think?" sort of stuff because I have to dance between worlds without stubbing my toes.

I have RealityFragments for... me. KnowProSE is more of a 'speak to policymakers' sort of site, and I've been building foundational content to link through.

Fluconf sounds like it was fun. Keep writing and advocating!

We need more awareness about these sort of concerns. Our enemy is proximity bias, and we need to find footholds that connect the broader picture with the digital poppets in the audience.

I can't say it's as fulfilling as I would like, but I can say it's an honest life. 🤣

@onepict the Homeless Workers Movement from Brazil has a technology chapter (I am part of it) and we have a short comic book in English: https://digilabour.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Other-Tech-Worlds-Are-Possible-Vol.-1-Homeless-Workers-Movement-in-Brazil-English.pdf

We also have a non fiction book released last year that probably will get translated into English as well.

@knowprose I think it's good that there are many different ways we can tell our communities around us about our online landscape. Especially when we come to this from different backgrounds.

It's also good to know we aren't alone in this.
