@douglasvb At least for the last twelve months

People aren’t necessarily out and about (SF has other issues that lead to a lack of vibrancy downtown, but residential areas are popping)

But they are moving here for jobs, mostly AI

@skinnylatte @douglasvb as someone who was afraid of AI taking my tech job, I find this news interesting. Any idea what sort of jobs the new SF residents do for AI?

I know that this isn't the most empathetic response to "weird rich people are ruining a community by bidding up housing prices", but I *do* kind of want to know what it would take for me to become one of them. You know, just as a potential option.

I really dislike the Victorian style homes so that feels like 50% of the rental market I don’t look at (I find them too cold and drafty indoors and I dislike old buildings with narrow hallways)

@skinnylatte have you ever experienced a carpeted bathroom? With carpet up the side of the bath?

@skinnylatte @SRLevine You'll see stuff like that in most cities, to some degree. Back when I was living in Munich, it was the same thing; get the weekly paper that had the rental ads in it (this was before there were online rental listings), call every single one that's in your price range, hope they still have an appointment left to tour the apartment, make your bid, hope you don't get outbid by another renter.

By 8am, usually all appointments for the week were taken.

@karlieeuh the American dream in the Bay Area is that double income homes with people making more than half a million dollars can’t easily afford to buy a home
