    @AkaSci

    Everything seems to continue to go well. The astronauts are stowing gear and getting ready to sleep for four hours. They will then wake up and perform a burn to adjust their orbit. Then they will sleep again for five hours. After this sleep period they will begin preparing for the burn maneuver that will take them to the moon.

    Pleasant dreams and good luck to our brave explorers.

    The astronauts are waking up now and getting ready for day 2 of their mission. All is going well.

    Wiseman and Glover will begin their day setting up and checking out Orion’s flywheel exercise device.

    Later, the main event of the day – the translunar injection burn, the maneuver that will set them on the path to the moon, will be done by Orion’s main engine on the spacecraft’s European Service Module.

            They have just reported all GO for the TLI burn in about 3 1/2 hours. This is very good news.

            h/t AkaSci: Artemis II TLI scheduled for 7:49 p.m. EDT.

              Correction: They are discussing gathering some water before the TLI as a backup since they had a water valve problem yesterday, which has been resolved, but as a contingency they want to gather water before the TLI burn.

                @mastodonmigration @AkaSci The Apollo programme didn't have any toilets. Astronauts were just wearing diapers, used ones were put into plastic bags.

                    They are about 30 minutes from the Trans Lunar Injection or TLI burn, scheduled for 7:49 p.m. EDT, that will sent the spacecraft out of Earth orbit and to the Moon. They have completed the work with the exercise equipment and the contingency water collection. The pace of operations is increasing with the need to get things squared away before the TLI.

                      @mastodonmigration @AkaSci It's horrifying to me that NASA is now whiter than it was 80s. DOGE's 20% plus layoffs of NASA staff seem to have primarily focused on PoC and white women. The male, pale NASA I'm seeing now is reminiscent of the one which segregated the brilliant black female 'Hidden Figures' into the back of the bus while they were key to the moon landings.

                                  @mastodonmigration @AkaSci I'm a physicist. While I was a grad student at Caltech, I turned down a job offer at NASA. I do not believe that I would be welcome at NASA today, nearly 40 yrs later. NASA is a very uncomfortable place for the few people of color now left on staff, just as it was for those brilliant "Hidden Figures" working in segregation at NASA.

                                    ☝️ We are now 5 minutes away from the TLI burn. They are doing final attitude adjustments prior to the burn. The burn will last about 5 minutes. Good time to tune in.

                                    Update: Orion is now in burn attitude
