Since we live in an area with a lot of elderly people maybe I should start a tech help service 🤔

@stux Hmm-m. Are they driving the cheap cars? Do they have the cheap laptops?
Then why would they hire cheap techs?
@McHollander Hmm good point
I’m pretty sure we’re the poor ones here lol

"Nerd At Home" or something, like the student one but better and cheaper!
Question however.. how do we reach such people, paper perhaps?
@stux yeh, letterbox drops, maybe even door knocking. I did it for a while with businesses in my home town, just hit the footpath, and make connections

@stux some of them are very active on that toxic cesspool of a social media that's Nextdoor. Or maybe some of them are part of a WhatsApp powered spying ring. You just need to find the one person who knows how to add people to the buurtapp

@stux That wouldn't be an unreasonable assumption, unlike your assumption that making actual money for your labour is somehow robbing.

@stux Look for seniors’ groups to get started. I volunteer with a senior group that has drop-in tech workshops regularly.

@stux Ik weet niet of briefjes in de supermarkt nog een ding zijn, maar dat lijkt me ook nog een optie.

@stux Visit in person. Once 1-2 people know your service, word spreads fast. But be aware: while a great service, the effort to money payment ratio in this business is low. However the effort / good memories ratio is very high.

@stux @McHollander Seniors come in all kinds (when it comes to money). I didn’t set out to make money when I started volunteering with seniors, but some feel better paying me, so I don’t say no.

@stux Mooi initiatief.

i connected with a local nonprofit (called vicap). their primary mission was providing transportation for the elderly, but they also offered handyman services & technology assistance.
met some very cool people, including a very butch, retired army staff seargent and her wife. she served during the don't-ask-don't-tell era and they had to navigate all of that as a couple. they were one of the first to get married when it became legal to do so.
she called vicap because she needed help putting up xmas lights.

@saltywizard @stux Nice to know that such people exist, though there are none I am aware of here in Luxembourg

@stux Yes paper in large print

Also radio, and if need be megaphone and a parade down the street
Parade could include kids with wagons decked out in ribbons and stuffed animals, small flags and flyers to hand out
