A building blew up directly in front of her.

That wasn't normal, Elle thought. Buildings only do that when they're extremely stressed.

Terrorism was America's bread and butter. Everything was terrorism. Jaywalking was terrorism. Talking back to the cops? Oh, you'd better believe that was terrorism.

More than three people? That was a conspiracy. Organized crime. Even if it was just little old ladies waving a sign outside of the mayor's house.

@gwynnion I've always thought that the High Energy Magic Building at Unseen University on the Discworld should have had a sign on the door saying "WARNING! This building is easily alarmed".

Elle swung in like Errol Flynn to kick Supreme Soviet in his manliest of parts, which had the biggest chance of stopping him.

It was like trying to drop kick a rhinoceros. She bounced off.

Supreme Soviet frowned. To her surprise, he offered her a hand up.

"Women are the equal of any man," he said, "Do not let anyone tell you different. I do not kill women unless they are soldiers of the enemy, and you are a sister of the revolution even if you do not yet know it."

          "That's nice?"

"You are strong," he said in that speechifying way of his, "But you are right. You do not want to be here. So consider this a favor. I know you will survive."

"What?" she said, nursing a sprained everything.

"Sorry," Supreme Soviet said, and backhanded her across the street, between the buildings, and into an alley 500 feet below.

Which was pretty much how their last encounter went, too.
