People tell me about XMPP and IRC, but what they forget is that my original post includes the impossible task to get people you know to move there.

@volpeon Maybe it is time again to revive vBulletin and phpBB and make web 1.5 forums again.

@volpeon I used AIM right up to the day they killed it. It was a good instant messenger.

@volpeon@icy.wyvern.rip Oh, maybe you should use XMPP as I do โ

@volpeon counterpoint: I played the AIM warning system like a kind of game back in the day

@volpeon That'd be nice.
I really miss using Pidgin and being able to just ctrl-tab between unread text messages and reply in order they were received, and being able to keep things in their separate windows arranged in a way that made sense to me.

@volpeon I know how this goes. I'm still on IRC, and I'd love to see more people on there, but a lot of people just refuse to leave Discord.
I still hold out some hope though. I know you and I are on the same server at least once.

@volpeon at this point I've decided the hassle isn't worth it and I'll just move somewhere myself if I need to, and if my friends actually give a shit they'll follow me there, if only to talk to me. I've been running 3 chat apps at startup for years now just to keep up with people, surely I'm not the only person who should have to extend the same courtesy
