    The more this government digs in, the more it looks like the worst Brian Mulroney + Stephen Harper mashup.

    @avilewis and the NDP need to be relentlessly loud in their opposition to this and presenting of socially progressive alternatives.

      @chris
      This is a smoke and mirrors exercise that shows a lower level of debt, but also removes goods and services from the commons. Its effects are predictable when governments then pay the new owners enhanced fees plus profit to run the service, meaning that the end user actually ends up paying more. Graphic elsewhere contrasted UK's entirely privatized electrical grid where power is sold at 23p/kwh with Norway's government system, with power being provided at the equivalent of 3p/kwh. It seems pretty clear that Carney and his vrew are hip-deep in the same smelly effluvia that eventually drove Canadians to dump Mulroney and Harper. I suspect that no admin populated by the Liberals or the Conservatives could ever be immune to the lure of the trough, and, sadly, Horgan and Eby have shown no spine in breaking out of the loving embrace of the greedy and corrupt.

        Its all short term thinking... Privatizing public infrastructure is a great way for the government of the day to get a big cash infusion to do whatever they like. The inevitable cost increases and service cuts will only be seen a few years down the road after they are out of office.

              I try to keep the way I look at privatization simple:

              A public airport's goal is to provide airline services to the people.

              A privatized airport's goal is to make money for its owners.

              I want my airports to provide airport services.
