    We all love the heavy-hitter Discworld quotes. Vimes and his boots, Death and his harvest. The rising ape and the moving turtle.

    But today of all days I am especially grateful for the silliness, the parts that make me stop and giggle decades later no matter how many times I've read them.

    And I could list so many! Magrat Garlick "standin' there bifurcated" in Witches Abroad, Colon's "slanty thing over the e" from Men At Arms, pretty much everything Gaspode ever says.

    But my number one underrated Discworld quote is and will always be:

    "It was a large, ornate pot. About the height of a man of large pot height." - Moving Pictures

    So simple. So ridiculous. Gets me every time 😆

    What's yours?

    @thegiddystitcher There are so many clever music jokes in Soul Music, but the shaggy dog story in a footnote just to get a punchline about a felonious monk always struck me as a joke crafted with a malicious and gleeful love for both comedy and jazz.

      @thegiddystitcher Annoyingly I can’t remember the exact wording of the quote, or which book it’s from to look it up (stupid brain fog).

      But there’s one about the long drawn out accordion note that has to be played to warn people that folk music is about to be perpetrated, so that they have time to get to a safe distance.

      Always make me giggle and has saved me from folk music several times in real life 😀

            @thegiddystitcher The Lancre Reciprocating Fox ("It's front legs go like this and it's back legs go like that") will live forever in my mind. I'm not even sure I've got the exact phrase right, but I don't care.

            And

            I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I COULD MURDER A CURRY from Mort, of course.

            @pdcawley Yes! As I recall from the recent reread, nobody could quite decide which way its legs went 😄

              @thegiddystitcher Guards, Guards:

              "For a moment the rank felt as though they had just returned from singlehandedly conquering a distant province. They felt, in fact, tremendously bucked-up, which was how Lady Ramkin would almost certainly have put it and which was definitely several letters of the alphabet away from how they normally felt."

                  @thegiddystitcher Not to mention Wyrd Sisters: "As the cauldron bubbled an eldritch voice shrieked: “When shall we three meet again?” There was a pause. Finally another voice said, in far more ordinary tones: “Well, I can do next Tuesday.”"

                  But I could also add any number from the greatest mathematician on the disk, through to "banged grains"
