    A strong & sweet start of the weekend.

    Hellbender - BA American Barleywine
    "Hellbender is a leviathan of a beer made with over a tonne of malt and a mountain of American hops. You know it would taste great right now, but a beer this big will only get better with age. What will it taste like in a year? Two years? More? Will you ever get to find out..."

        @shertson Sweet, sticky and strong... Lots of dried fruit flavours. Almost like a liquid Christmas cake 😁

          I'm trying to imagine how the oak impacts it. I love barrel aged beers, and I love barley wines, but I'm having a hard time putting them together in my head. Lol

          Gonna have to hunt this down and taste it for myself.

            @shertson the proof is in the tasting 😁 It would be an interesting experiment to taste both the regular Hellbender and the BA version side by side... (makes mental note: I def need to do that as well)

              @digigeek

              Looks like this is from New Zealand and unlikely to be available here in the US. Guess I'll just have to keep trying to imagine it

              I'll have to find a crazy brewery around here that makes something similar.

                @shertson yup Garage Project is a brewery from Wellington, New Zealand. Don't think they're exporting to the US.

                But I guess you guys have a lot more breweries that craft a wicked barley wine.

                Tioga-Sequoia Brewing is the first one that comes to mind... Well the only one I have tasted 😁

                  @shertson @digigeek I’d say there are lots of similar choices in the US. I’ve found a bunch of BA barleywines via #tavour. Sapwood Cellars in MD does lots of them. Our local LiftBridge Brewing here in MN has several annual BA barleywines in their “Commander” series.

                    I've never heard of Tavour. Looks like they may be skirting state regs. Interesting.

                      @pejacoby @digigeek

                      Do they only have select beers from each brewery or is it all of the brewery's available cans?

                        It’s two “drops” or offers a day, they offer what they offer until it’s gone. Wide variety of brewers and styles. Grab it while you can, fill your “crate” and pick a shipping date. Various “preorder” opportunities as well that become available in weeks or maybe a month later. Anything you buy you pay for immediately.

                        Flat rate shipping $16 regardless of order size - I have made our UPS guy very unhappy with orders that ship in two 30 pound boxes 😎
