Canada could join EU, French foreign minister says

Half-joking comments about Canada joining the bloc have become common as Ottawa adapts to its fraying relationship with the United States.

    favicon

    POLITICO (www.politico.eu)

It's a good idea but even though Canada is closest to #Europe in terms of ethos, EU implies a geographical area not a state of mind

    So...

EuCan? "Yes, EuCan!" ("Yes, you can!")

    Eumerica?

    EU Max?

    CanadEU?

    Canadian Eastern Neighbors Initiative?

    Inverse Russia?

    Greater Iceland?

    Hans Island Maximum Overdrive?

    Oh, I got it:

    NATO

Is there an org by that name already?

@benroyce If Greenland joined the Schengen area, the land border on Hans Island would be open for travellers.

Waterloo Ontario and Waterloo Belgium also have to share a mayor and city council, police department, water department, and sanitation department

lots of flying for the mayor and government officials. and reeeeallly long pipes for the water dept, and garbage trucks that have to cross the atlantic twice a week. if your purse gets robbed in Ontario, the police in Belgium have to investigate. if there is a fistfight in Belgium, the police in Ontario have to fly over

@benroyce @nemo that's exactly what I mean. York and New York are the same city. You have multiple towns in a country named (roughly) the same? They're the same place now.

Canada could join EU, French foreign minister says

Half-joking comments about Canada joining the bloc have become common as Ottawa adapts to its fraying relationship with the United States.

It's a good idea but even though Canada is closest to #Europe in terms of ethos, EU implies a geographical area not a state of mind

                                      So...

EuCan? "Yes, EuCan!" ("Yes, you can!")

                                      Eumerica?

                                      EU Max?

                                      CanadEU?

                                      Canadian Eastern Neighbors Initiative?

                                      Inverse Russia?

                                      Greater Iceland?

                                      Hans Island Maximum Overdrive?

                                      Oh, I got it:

                                      NATO

Is there an org by that name already?

@benroyce TBF, NATO is supposedly the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but some of its members are nowhere close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Also, states that are not geographically in Europe are considered to be part of the EU in some specific cases. For example, for research funding, both Japan and Israel are considered as being part of the EU.

@kDelta @benroyce so, how is that different from what I wrote? For the purposes of research funding, Japan, Israel and the UK (and possibly others) are treated as if they were EU member States. Of course, this is because there are agreements set in place. So?
