@RandamuMaki @delta Yes, indeed. Very few software updates with DeltaChat and they appear to be a great team doing good things. 👌

@eniko What you don’t add is genuinely more important than what you do.

@eniko @Meyerweb first place to start is avoiding tracking, because those are bigger, have more updates and have more code.

The challenging part is convincing your government and bank to do the same so you can still use their services.

@eniko speaking of which, I finally bought Kitsune Tails and Midboss last week—they're both a lot of fun 😊

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place so do i. what you're describing sounds a lot like the unix philosophy. (do one thing and do it well)

i'm in the same boat as a lot of windows users rn. i want to switch to BSD, but i need linux for video games

@datarama @eniko Rwgarding "out of things where they have no save reason to be"... I would honestly love more well-made dumb appliances.

There is zero reason to ever discover my toaster is part of a botnet.

@daviddoes @datarama @eniko I remember NetBSD claiming to run on toasters, maybe 20 years ago. Probably gave the wrong people ideas. But I guess if I had to have software on my toaster I could do a lot worse.

@eniko can we also request the coders to have a nap time during the day? Rest is important, and I'm not kidding about that either.

@MeaningfulBits @eniko should be illegal to call it an "app" if it does.
Maybe call it a "shim" instead.

@me @eniko And every fifteen minutes there is a new Java release that fixes a thousand security holes and adds a thousand new features to bloat up the runtime. Meanwhile my "C" programs from the early 1990s still compile and run just fine.

@eniko But then the boss would have fewer people to manage, and be unable to justify his job. Most software changes are about employment for engineers, not necessity. Grr.

As a software engineer I want computer languages and frameworks that stay stable for decades rather than have a new release every year that obsoletes old programs and requires a rewrite. But I don't get to have that :(.

@badtux @eniko Maybe that's the appeal of VBA? I never made the move from VB6 to VB.net, so no idea how stable that is. VBA seems to keep on trucking as it is.

@me @eniko Substitute any other language or framework in large scale use for Java. Go? Rust? JavaScript/TypeScript? Even where the language is stable the frameworks you have to use to get work done are as firm as gelatin.
