First year with a bird bath.

First year with a bird bath. Didn't realize I was also signing up for honeybee lifeguard duty. I have a small piece of styrofoam floating in there for lost insects, but many don't seem to find it. Any ideas?

Bees often navigate via bright colours so if the styrofoam is white they might not be able to make it out. A few well placed sticks might work. -

@VoiceofDuum would it work to put in some pebbles / small rocks?

@VoiceofDuum fill it with small stones, the birds can still drink from it but bugs won't drown

Pebbles work!
We built a little island for landing and takeoff. They started using it right away! -

Thanks for the excellent suggestions y'all! I blast-clean out the bath every other day, so a pile of rocks would significantly add to the chore. Here's my first attempt: a single rock with on-ramp. So far no distress calls, but also the birds seem wary; maybe they think it's a finch-chomping gator. What do you think?
