@David I agree. I think for most, or at least myself, knowing my basics are met means knowing I am going to survive for the month, being able to better manage my own mental health symptoms, and make better, concise decisions.
oftentimes, whether we choose to or not, we help others before ourselves. in reality, we shouldn’t pour from an empty glass, but … *reality*.

@David “money can’t buy happiness but poverty can’t buy anything.”

There are diminishing returns. Twice as much money does not make you twice as happy. And some bastards will never ever be happy. But as rule, money definitely does make it a lot easier to be happy.

The text is right, but MONEY does not buy happiness, other than in a "sufficient" quantity.
More than enough not being enough is the beginning of the affliction of the oligarchs.
Remove the pressures of survival and life certainly does become sweeter.
UBI, anyone?

@David right? I work in advice and am constantly encouraged to signpost people to mh charities if they're in distress, when that distress is a perfectly natural reaction to being hounded and threatened for money they don't have, to pay for goods and services that every human being absolutely needs.
"More money" indeed doesn't make you happy, but "enough money to meet your basic needs and live with a minimum of dignity" is an essential prerequisite for happiness.

@David well some folks who are extremely rich appear to be miserable. Case in point Elon Musk.
Folks who are constantly struggling to pay for necessities would be a lot happier if their needs are taken care of.
