I’ve followed Microsoft Inclusive Design since 2015. It fundamentally changed how I understand design.
The new experience was built through co-design with disabled and neurodivergent collaborators, with a focus on adaptability, usability, and real-world inclusion.

A few things we did with this redesign/rebuilt that I am most excited about:
- Light, dark, and high-contrast modes
- Flexible grid/list layouts
- Accessible web-based content (with listening options + PDFs)
- Clear navigation and scalable content structure3/

The close of this project feels a little bittersweet.
We shipped sooner than I expected, as ownership shifted away from my team.
Still, we made sure this work went live and it will continue on.
That matters. It’s a win, especially in a moment where DEIA is being reduced systemically.

With the ownership change, I won't personally be able to be involved in bug fixes.
But if you have issues and spot bugs send them to inclusivedesignmicrosoft (on Bluesky).com.
Feel free to share good things to the email too. Lots of love to the accessibility + inclusive design community.

@annaecook This is great, and I understand how impactful MS Inclusive Design could be - I was inspired early on by the Apple Human Interface Guidelines. (Now, I'm not so sure, but a lot of inspirations of mine were early 00s.) Getting the opportunity to shape something that helped shape you... I'm glad you had such an opportunity, yourself!

Huge congratulations! What a wonderful and important project, a project that has and continues to shape how design and build accessible and inclusive interfaces. -

@annaecook Thank you for continuing on with this.
The Inclusive Design efforts that Kat/Margaret and their team spearheaded were super helpful in my expansion of what ‘usability' meant.
The insane re-orgs there are incredibly difficult to deal with. -
