Do you also struggle to share a link to a book? Don’t want to link to a specific store? This might be the solution:
The Fifth Season - Bookpile
THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS . . . FOR THE LAST TIME. IT STARTS WITH THE GREAT RED RIFT across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. IT STARTS WITH DEATH, wit…
Bookpile (bookpile.org)
A site that lists the reasonable places where to get the book, including libraries.
All open source. I need help in getting the list of cities as full as possible.
Please suggest the best bookstores for your city, including a way to link to a book in that book store.

@bitboxer for Belgium, there is Librel website (https://www.librel.be/), gathering indépendant librairies. You can find a book and see which library has it in stock.
Otherwise my favourite library in Brussels is @librairie_chimeres
Nice project! -

@bitboxer Awesome!
For just linking books LibraryThing is quite OK.
Example: https://www.librarything.com/work/14231634/t/The-Fifth-Season
But we always can have more options.
For bookstores you can use Overpass Turbo to query OpenStreetMap.
overpass turbo
A web based data mining tool for OpenStreetMap which runs any kind of Overpass API query and shows the results on an interactive map.
(overpass-turbo.eu)
Example query:
[out:json][timeout:25];
// fetch area to search in
{{geocodeArea:Berlin}}->.searchArea;
// gather results
node[shop=books](area.searchArea);out;
// print results
out geom;Switch to Data in the top right corner of the page.
You’ll get locations and lots of other data, including websites. But you’ll have to workout how to link to individual books.

@pointlessone librarything is already in the book tracking section on the page. But I wanted to have something people can link to for an easy way to search their local book store / library.
Sadly OpenStreetMap gives us the location of stores, but rarely websites or phone numbers. Deep linking to an ISBN is not even a metadata option sadly. Maybe in the future. I already had a prototype with this, but decided not to go forward due to this missing metadata.

@bitboxer I don’t think deep linking is missing per se. It’s just not the type of data that a map usually has. I thought it might be a good starting point. Like, groups stores by chain name and manually work out linking scheme for a few more popular ones in the country of interest. You probably will have to use some sort of api to translate isbn to a link as in my experience most don’t use isbn in urls. Like, you can search by isbn but you get internal id in the url.

@pointlessone I would love to see a MR that implements this. But in my limited time I was not able to get to a result that I liked.

@bitboxer Then there's also issue with isbn identifying a publication, and not a work. Casually people see all books of Lord Of the Rings as one book, but every single edition has its own isbn. Sometimes you might want to link to a specific edition. A very specific books that has a very specific cover and illustrations, for example. But for the purpose of work recommendations you probably want to link to a work, which includes all publications. And that might be a whole bunch of isbns.
