My personal theory - and I know this sounds nuts but come on now why not? - is that elements in the US government are feeding US taxpayer dollars into the market to prop it up.

@jerry All that fossil fuel is magically more expensive because of war! Cha-ching!

Never knew an oligarch who didn't relish war.

if they could ever come up with a hallucinogen as effective as what the stock market folks experience, it would sell like hotcakes.

@jerry well, up by 0.04%. But yeah the point stands that it really should be down a bunch. But the wild thing is that several oil companies are up big time. I guess it's the ones who don't have middle east operations, so they get to command the market?

@JessTheUnstill I am not too surprised by oil companies being up. Those that are still able to move their product will get a much higher profit margin than they had been due to the rise in oil futures. The rest is really strange.

@jawarajabbi @jerry I think that’s more or less accurate. The whole Anthropic/DoD charade last week seemed to be about handing govt money to OpenAI which in turn has a $300bn deal with Oracle…
And, of course, the market loves war. Lots of money to be made there.
What a horrible world.
