@sysop408 That was a sign of bad taste and a too big ego. Or as the young ones put it today a big red flag. πŸ‘΄ @kibcol1049

@ghostdancer YUP! Even using a photo of yourself as your avatar reeked of desperation.

I'm so old, I remember when the internet didn't have dating sites, and you could meet people online, and then afk, and date, and get married, and later get divorced, and regret it, and pine away for them for decades while your family force medicated you to cure you of love.

@kibcol1049 To be fair, we did have punch the monkey, bonzai buddy, etc etc back in the day. But they were so much less obnoxious than the total takeovers of our browsers and tracking of our toilet usage going on now...

@johnnyvibrant Yes and the page turned over before you could write the details down and you had to sit through the other 400 pages before that one came back again!

I remember when Google came along and made Magellan, LookSmart, AltaVista and Yahoo redundant almost overnight. I used Dogpile to submit the same search string to multiple databases simultaneously, then you could continue with the one that looked most promising.
And Google was just a page with a search box. Nothing else.

Not if it's in your sitting room, I suspect. All the windows and the crockery in the cupoards would rattle.

I remember when the Web was new. I remember hoping that it wouldn't take off, because I had to pay for dialup by the minute, whereas, before the Web, I could just log in, collect email and news, send my messages and hang up again, all within a minute or so. Much cheaper!
