The Metaverse stuff in Teams was such a waste of time. Trend chasing a trend which never existed in the first place. With my AI avatar I used to robot dance in meetings to piss people off.

The main value of ‘together mode’ was that everyone had a consistent view of the layout of the ‘room’. Doing intros by going around the table was easier, for example.
The one technique wish they’d implemented on top of this was based on some papers from the Rainbow Group in Cambridge that let you adjust the eye position of videos in real time. I wanted them to add something that would track which person you were looking at on your screen and then make you look directly at them on their screen and in the direction of the speaker in a consistent-layout render of the other videos. The technology for doing this existed five or so years ago.

@GossiTheDog So much developer time wasted in features nobody asked while I'm STILL unable to mute people only for myself. I'm tired of the echo voice when I'm next in the office to someone in a teams meeting T•T

@renard most companies do

@renard most companies do
@GossiTheDog none of the companies I worked for and I'm working for. Typical "would you jump off a cliff too" moment… and they all said "fuck no, that's so crass".
The "but everyone does it" discourse is so tired, and so much so for cybersec employees.

@renard Teams has ~320m monthly active users at last count. The discourse that 'well *I* don't use it' is so tired.

@GossiTheDog this makes for a catastrophic state of affairs. Not a win, quite the opposite.
