    @sesivany I would have thought that Czechia would be all over Gen 4 Thorium-based nuclear power .

    The Chinese are busy coming of with SMR's in all shapes and size, which will outproduce any windmill(s) during it's lifetime and can have a footprint of an truck ( since it quite literally can come on one )

    Have the Americans convinced Czechia to shutdown it's nuclear plants like it did in Germany and de-industrialize itself in the process?

      @johannbg No, all our nuclear plants are running, but at the same time we haven't been able to start a construction of another one in the last 25 years because of NIMBY. We haven't even been able to pick a location of the permanent used fuel storage because of NIMBY.

        @sesivany this new thorium based Gen 4 nuclear technology makes nuclear reactors inherently safe, which in turn makes any sort of NIMBY arguments mute really. ( China is about to put those into commercial ships )

        And without abundance of cheap electricity, no country in Europe will be able to compete with East Asia on industrial level so that mindset needs to change for future generations.

        In China they are already moving into factory/dc sized, mobile & ocean/floating platforms solutions.

                  @sesivany Samozřejmě, že jsou škaredý. Soláry na střechách jsou taky hnusný. Když jsem malej, děsily mě stožáry VVN. Jenže účel světí prostředky. Ve Skandinávii, kde to fouká od vody, tyhle větrníky zásobují energií nemalou část obyvatelstva.

                          @sesivany No jo, ale ten důl tam byl vždycky! A za 3-4 generace tam určitě bude moc krásný jezero! Navíc ty turbíny zabíjí ptáčky! Ale je to NAŠE uhlí!

                                @johannbg

                                SMRs generate radioactive waste at a much higher rate than conventional reactors, do they not?

                                And where's the waste going to go? Right now it's mostly kept in pools at the nuclear power plant. Can't do that with an SMR. You'll have to carry the waste on a truck to some kind of dumping facility, and if that truck suffers a traffic accident, suddenly the surrounding city is uninhabitable for 40 years.

                                All in all, this sounds like a horrible idea.
