    @sundogplanets Anyone guilty of it should have it tattooed on their forehead in reverse so it’s all they see in the mirror.

      @sundogplanets I'm now imagining someone carrying around a lit placard with various levels of mansplaining on it. At any point they could slam a button on top, game-show style, and elevate the level.

      Just the *presence* of that around a femme speaker...

      @socketwench @sundogplanets this came to mind. A couple tweaks, perhaps this guy 🗣️, it could work.

                Love this!

                Bring one of these if the flowchart doesn't work. Or better yet, add it as a step after "Definitely Mansplaining"

                  @sundogplanets My guess is that the serious mansplainers simply will not (or cannot) acknowledge that SHE is a well-known expert and/or has more relevant experience than they have, so they will never get to the red boxes. They are also unlikely to ask if she needs and explantion, so that path is out as well.

                    @sundogplanets
                    This is a terrific chart that explains the issue. Maybe just simplify the chart and say 'yes' or everything else 'no'. Of course, most of these guys won't take no for an answer either.

                      @sundogplanets T-shirts?

                      For conferences, print a compact version that fits inside the plastic pocket you get for your conference ID and put it in the back, so you can just flip the badge to show it.

                            @sundogplanets

                            Hi Prof.
                            Yes... but

                            In the moment, it often really really really LOOKS like I have more experience in X, and like how would I know?
                            Asking someone if they need help is also fraught and often gets the "are you fucking kidding me? OF COURSE I NEED HELP!"

                            However, yes, mansplaining is rife, irritating, and actually kinda abusive, and I am happy to balance my quandary by just getting yelled at occasionally for being slow to help

                                  @sundogplanets Thx for the diagram! I find most of the paths very logical and obvious. But that last 'did you ask' box before you get to 'not mansplaining' is a bit of an eye opener.
                                  How should we phrase that question though? I'm afraid that 'would you like me to explain that?' would be really condescending :^].

                                    @ives @sundogplanets Here is my suggestion. When you feel yourself about to explain something, ask her "Are you familiar with _____?". She can either tell you what she knows or ask for an explanation so, that the two of you can establish a common starting point for the next part of conversation.

                                        @sundogplanets T-shirts?

                                        For conferences, print a compact version that fits inside the plastic pocket you get for your conference ID and put it in the back, so you can just flip the badge to show it.

                                        Handing over your card with this chart could be fun too.

                                          I am... really tempted to pin this to the top of my account... Print it and put it on my office door... send it as my email signature... wear it around my neck at conferences....
