@Tutanota What we’re actually after isn't just privacy, but the right to choose. It means I should be able to choose whether or not to show you my information, rather than having a bunch of people flaunting my private data in front of me and causing massive issues for my personal safety. A long time ago, when many IRC clients didn't have privacy mode enabled by default, hardly anyone made a fuss about it.

@uncanny_creature @Tutanota privacy should be default untill we don't want to expose it to anyone. That's the human right. If privacy shouldn't be default thn why are u at Mastodon. Why not use FB X insta tiktok and let them track you whatever u do by Trackers. 😅The reason u are here coz u also want privacy from big tech companies 🤣🤣

@GOKUSHRM @Tutanota Yo I literally said that. By default no government should be surveilling on you but you should be able to choose to use apps that don't. If an app like Instagram or Twitter collects your data, you can choose to go somewhere else. Don't know why this is so hard to understand. And having this choice is not really a human right to privacy. It's just personal agency.

@GOKUSHRM @Tutanota yeah, that was referring to legislation that forbids a company from collecting certain kinds of data. You should be able to choose which company, even if they collect certain information. Probably needed clarification. The only thing you should have by default is NO government surveillance.

I suppose 'Sanity is a human right' would be asking too much.

@uncanny_creature yeah so we have the right but it's not always respected. That doesn't take away the fact that it is a right, right?

@trogluur not respected is kind of an understatement. It's basically non existent in practice. It's written by the same governments who trade citizens' data with these surveillance alliances.

@uncanny_creature @Tutanota I'm not fully agree to stop surveillance 💯 %. Government can put surveillance if they find anything suspicious. Because without zero surveillance can't find how's planning to bomb or a terrorist attack on ur country.
