    @trogluur That doesen't mean squat when every government will always be incentivized to ignore it. It's in name only. You can't actually have a right to privacy. It's impossible. What I said earlier is the best and most logical thing you can get.

              It also seems like we've all chosen the path of more privacy anyway, by being here, regardless of the right. Which again, shows that it doesn't matter if it exists.

                    Agreed. But, like you said, this option depends on governments permitting Mastodon and not raiding instances.

                        @Tutanota

                        Not necessarily

                        Is privacy important? Yes
                        Should you be guaranteed privacy by default? No
                        Should the government be allowed to surveil you for any reason? No
                        Should companies be forced to abide by certain privacy laws? No

                        So the default should be neutral and you can choose what you want.

                        Privacy is defined within most constitutions in democratic countries. So it should be guaranteed.

                                        @Tutanota What weโ€™re actually after isn't just privacy, but the right to choose. It means I should be able to choose whether or not to show you my information, rather than having a bunch of people flaunting my private data in front of me and causing massive issues for my personal safety. A long time ago, when many IRC clients didn't have privacy mode enabled by default, hardly anyone made a fuss about it.

If privacy shouldn't be default thn why are u at Mastodon. Why not use FB X insta tiktok and let them track you whatever u do by Trackers. ๐Ÿ˜…The reason u are here coz u also want privacy from big tech companies ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

                                          @GOKUSHRM @Tutanota Yo I literally said that. By default no government should be surveilling on you but you should be able to choose to use apps that don't. If an app like Instagram or Twitter collects your data, you can choose to go somewhere else. Don't know why this is so hard to understand. And having this choice is not really a human right to privacy. It's just personal agency.
