I’m based in Scotland. Does this decision apply UK-wide, or England only?
@iamdavidobrien as I understand it, this is NHS England. That said, you should write to your MSP to ensure NHS Scotland doesn't do the same.

blog! “NHS Goes To War Against Open Source”The NHS is preparing to close nearly all of its Open Source repositories.
Throughout my time working for the UK Government - in GDS, NHSX, i.AI, and others - I championed Open Source. I spoke to dozens of departments about it, wrote guidance still in use today, and briefed Ministers on why it was so…

Starmer is Labour's worst leader. In history, and that includes Blair.@kevinrns ok. But that has nothing to do with the blog post. This isn't a PM level decision.

Not sure the NHS in Scotland had the same setup, but will do.

I'm quoted in this article.
NHS England rushes to hide software over AI hacking fears
National Health Service rules state that all software created with public money should be publicly available, but fears of computer-hacking AI models like Mythos have prompted a change in policy

Almost certainly too late.

The NHS has been put in a bobsled to hell by Tories, Starmer has done nothing to.change the destination.
Like he's done nothing on Tory demonstration laws, like he's adopted Tory lgbt bigotry, like he's continued Tory Austerity, like he continues racist Tory immigrant scapegoating.
Ain't nothing outside the PM purview.

#government #nhs #OpenSource #politics@Edent If they're afraid of "AI hacking", they should get rid of legacy hardware/software first.
Like, seriously. In 2023 NHS was still running Solaris 8 in production on Sun Blades 150 (workstations dumped into racks) and Ministry of Justice was running Tru64 UNIX on (emulated) DEC Alphas

@kevinrns I mean, that simply isn't true. Funding is significantly up in the NHS.

No need to reply, thanks.

@kevinrns that graph literally shows a drop since Labour were elected in 2024…
As, in fact, do most other statistics.

Anyway, you concentrate on your country and we'll concentrate on ours.
Bye.

@Npars01 understood. But we don't have Republicans in the UK (other than the anti-monarchy lot).
What did your MP say when you wrote to them about it?
Mapped: The Tory Network of Climate Denial and Fossil Fuel Funding
Speaking outside Downing Street on 23 May, announcing a general election for 4 July, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took a swipe at what he dubbed “environmental dogma”. It was a sign of how much has changed since 2021, when the UK hosted the flagship COP26 UN climate summit with a promise “irrefutably to turn the […]

Mapped: Reform UK’s Anti-Green Network
Nigel Farage’s Reform UK describes itself as a people’s movement taking on the British establishment. The anti-immigration party, which won five seats in July’s general election and is holding its annual conference this week in Birmingham, attacks climate action as a costly imposition by “elites” on ordinary people. But a DeSmog analysis reveals that Reform […]

Mapped: Donald Trump’s Transatlantic Anti-Green Network
As Donald Trump takes his oath of office to become the 47th president of the United States, his second term comes at an ever-more critical time for climate change. Mapped: The Reform-Orbán Network
“Viktor Orbán is the strongest leader in Europe and the EU’s biggest nightmare.” These were the words posted on Twitter by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage about the prime minister of Hungary in April 2018. Since returning to power in 2010, Orbán has used a network of state-backed think tanks, media outlets, and conferences to […]

Mapped: Pro-Trump Heartland Institute’s European Network
A year ago, as the world convulsed from Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election, his allies were already identifying their next frontier. In December, the Heartland Institute hosted a private event in Mayfair, one of London’s wealthiest areas, to announce the launch of its new UK-Europe branch. The launch was attended by former […]

#government #nhs #OpenSource #politics@Edent I'm a little surprised to find out that they have open source repositories given how opaque the organisation generally is to the public.
